“Feminine Exuberance…

…With a sophisticated chic.”* was what I used to describe the outcome of my vision board for my new home to everyone from my real estate agent (Maureen – thank you for not laughing), my parents (who certainly laughed) to my boss (who I believe, rolled his eyes).

A few weeks before I moved, I set up shop in the attic of a teensy tiinsy, but absolutely adorable home decor store in my hometown and tirelessly fawned over wallpaper samples. I wanted my new foyer to make that statement immediately. I went from pink trellis patterns to green toile but knew right away when I got to the Osborne & Little books that I’d fallen in love. And falling in love is exactly what I do every time I’ve walked through my door. IMG00059

Next came the wing back chair, that reminded me of Barbara Barry’s signature lines which just ooze elegance. But it was covered in a heavy, drab slate with an odd green pattern. I found a pink fabric that was flirty but not barbie– and five weeks later, Voila!

So my walls are wallpapered, favorite pieces are in, papers signed, checks written (gulp…), most boxes unpacked and I’m now sitting in what will inevitably be one of my most passionate projects. Making this condo, nestled in the back bay of boston, into my very own. My favorite part about coming home is that every day a coffeetable book finds a spot, a couch gets rearranged or an old antique gets a nook.

But for today, I’m going to dance through my damask laden foyer while listening to Carly Simon and the Dixie Chicks, because I think peony pink and aqua gives me liscence to do just that. So much for sophisticated…

*Thank you house beautiful for that inspiration!

[...] Swept up in prepping my living room to be entertaining-ready, I’ve admittedly neglected my bedroom thus far. I fell too quickly for a warm golden wheat, fleur de lis printed wallpaper and refuse to part with my treasured oriental red writers desk so Ive been devising a way to steer away from the more traditional direction given the antiques and tiny motifs, or the masculine feel I could easily create by adding navys and hunter green. I finally feel like I’m landing on a palette that both, accomodates for the existing colors in the bedroom, and creates some continuity with the more fresh and feminine living space. [...]
